MCT Weight Loss

MCT Lean products are a great addition to a weight loss diet providing energy, suppressing cravings, and aiding fat burning.

MCT Lean contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) derived from coconut oil. Long-chain triglycerides (LCTs) make up the majority of human dietary fats. LCTs require bile salts and pancreatic enzymes to be broken down, and then must be absorbed through the lymphatic system to the intestines, which is a longer process. 1 Because MCTs are shorter they can be absorbed directly and much quicker providing faster results and benefits. MCTs contain fewer calories than LCTs, but cause your body to burn more!

When dieting we often cut carbs, which leaves us tired and hungry. The body digests MCT oil as a carbohydrate, but faster and is less likely to be stored as fat. This provides the energy you need when striving towards weight loss, while simultaneously burning fat. MCT oil’s thermogenic effect and fat oxidation causes the body to burn more calories. 2 Whether following a low carbohydrate plan or not, after consuming only 2 tablespoons of MCT oil fat burning occurs for several hours.

When compared to LCT oils such as olive and canola oil, studies indicate MCT oil is more effective for both weight loss AND fat loss. Long-term studies elucidated that MCT oil use results in suppression of body fat accumulation. 3 It has even been shown expedite abdominal fat loss when compared to a diet high in LCT oils. 4, 5, 6

In many low-carb, high-fat, protein diets considered ‘ketogenic’, the body burns fat rather than carbohydrates, producing ketone bodies as an alternative source of energy. MCTs are considered more ‘ketogenic’ than LCTs, tricking the body into believing it is a carb, but burning it as a fat with less calories!

MCTs are quickly absorbed into the digestive system after consumption and result in rapid energy production ideal for combating fatigue in any weight loss regimen. Because MCTs don’t cause the release of insulin similar to the way carbohydrates do, blood sugar remains more stable over time. 7 This helps control appetite and maintains energy levels when dieting.

If you are exercising in addition to your diet, MCT oil has been shown to preserve muscle during intense exercise, burning off fat rather than muscle during and after workouts. 8, 9
